Forest Stump
Carved to Break the Canvas
Inspiration
Inspired by a beautiful trail in Fish Creek Park, I would pass this lonely stump day after day, standing prominently in the middle of the path. It was weathered, broken, and long dead—the tree itself was gone, leaving only a battered stump behind. Yet, looking closer, I noticed something remarkable. Despite all it had endured, the stump still held the earth firmly in place with its deep roots. It stood strong and steadfast, a quiet reminder that even after loss and hardship, there can still be strength, purpose, and pride.

Reflection
This has to be one of the most recognizable stumps in Fish Creek Park. Situated along a busy trail, it silently greets millions of visitors year after year. Most people pass by without a second glance, but those who stop and look closer may find more than an old piece of wood. They may discover a story of resilience—a lasting symbol that even when something appears broken or forgotten, it can still stand strong and make a difference.
