Tree Reconstructed

Tree bark

Inspiration

Walking along paths less traveled, there are always quiet treasures waiting at our feet. This work was inspired by the natural shedding of tree bark—an essential and often overlooked process. For specific and necessary reasons, the outermost layer of a tree loosens and falls away, breaking into fragments that gather at its base.

These pieces, once part of a unified whole, resemble rugged, almost iceberg-like forms—raw, weathered, and uniquely shaped. Despite their separation, they still carry the identity of the tree they came from.

In Tree Reconstructed, these fragments are brought back together and reimagined. By carefully rebuilding and arranging the bark into a new composition, the work explores themes of renewal, transformation, and continuity—suggesting that even in separation, there is an inherent connection that can be rediscovered and restored.

Artwork Details

  • Medium: 16"x 20" -  mixed media -  oil and acrylic paint

  • Materials: Tree bark, Tree branch, tall grass, glitter, glue,

  • Highlights: Each pieces was shaped, then thoughtfully arranged and adhered to the canvas. Tall grass is nestled into the crevices, enriching the texture and adding natural, organic depth. The piece was then layered with applications of glitter and adhesive for subtle luminosity, and completed with a prominent branch—painted and delicately coated in glitter—serving as a striking focal point.

Reflection

As trees shed their outer layers to grow, what falls away is not lost, but transformed. Tree Reconstructed gathers these fragments and reimagines them, reflecting the beauty of renewal and the enduring connection between what was and what becomes.
