WINTER WONDER
Dec 2025 - oil painting
Winter stills the creek, turning its shallow waters into etched patterns of ice.
This is one of my favourite winter scenes in Fish Creek Park, a short walk from the Bebo Grove parking lot toward the Marshal Springs entrance. Winter stills the creek, turning its shallow waters into etched patterns of ice. Leaning trees and fallen logs rise through the frozen surface like remnants of an ancient battle, while fresh snow traces their forms and draws the eye.
The artwork showcases a tall evergreen on the left, with small cedar sticks inserted into its trunk. The tree leaning over the creek has a small fragment of an evergreen branch embedded at its tip.
The two large frozen logs on the ground are accented with small sticks, and the white paint is loaded over the edge to mimic snow.
The grass in the foreground is strengthened with actual grass, which is collected and attached to the canvas, to make the scene more connected to the land itself.
